Skin quality improvement

Skin quality improvement: surface skin quality as the treatment goal

As an indication, skin quality improvement differs from skin rejuvenation in treatment depth and patient profile. Where skin rejuvenation aims at structural repair of the dermis, skin quality improvement focuses on the surface: enlarged pores, uneven texture, a dull complexion, mild pigment variation and an overall loss of radiance.

These are concerns patients often describe as 'bad skin' — a combination of factors that are mild individually but together noticeably reduce skin quality. The treatment approach is aimed at superficial stimulation with minimal recovery time, which makes it suitable for a broad patient segment and a higher treatment frequency per year.

Technologies for skin quality improvement

IPL, via the ReClear IPL and the Elite iQ, is the most accessible technology for skin quality improvement. Its broad light spectrum treats superficial pigment variation, fine vessels and a dull complexion at the same time — with barely any downtime. Ideal as an entry-level treatment or as a maintenance protocol between more intensive sessions.

The Clarity II™ combines several wavelengths for a broader approach: both pigment and vascular components are addressed in a single treatment session, which increases efficiency for practices with a busy schedule.

Picosecond technology, via the PicoSure Pro and the Picoplus, improves skin texture and quality through photomechanical stimulation, including the visibility of pores and fine lines. The difference with fractional laser: less heat transfer, less downtime, comparable texture-focused results.

Non-ablative fractional laser via the MOSAIC 3D is the step up when IPL or picosecond do not deliver enough result: deeper collagen stimulation with slightly more recovery time, but without the intensity of ablative systems. It is the bridge between skin quality improvement and skin rejuvenation for patients who want more.

The Genius® RF Microneedling offers a specific approach to enlarged pores through a combination of mechanical stimulation and heat delivery — effective in the dermis without a significant effect on surface complexion or pigmentation.

A practice perspective

Skin quality improvement is the indication category par excellence for practices focusing on a broad patient segment with a high treatment frequency. The combination of minimal downtime and visible results makes it easy to position — including for patients who have never had a laser treatment before.

A well-developed skin quality programme — with IPL as the entry point and picosecond or non-ablative fractional as the step up — creates returning patients and offers a logical progression to more intensive treatments such as skin rejuvenation.

Medi-Invest helps you put together a coherent skin quality programme that fits your patient population and practice profile — from first treatment to long-term protocol.
